The Busy Mom’s Guide to Bible Study, Lisa Whelchel – Christina’s Day Two

Lisa Whelchel takes us on a journey where we look into the different modalities of “learning”, “taking in what we read or are exposed to”, “retaining the information for our knowledge base”.  She discusses Visual Learning, Auditory Learning and Kinesthetic Learning(learning while doing).  How do you study or work best and retain the information you need to retain?  I am a hands on person, I like to read and touch at the same time then I can retain steps I need to take, I can retain facts that are shared and best of all I am equip to teach others best when I have learned something this way.

Today we read Matthew 5:3-10

New International Version (NIV)

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Each Blue text is a description of the followers, the people and the green it is their blessings bestrode onto them.  It is funny this verse came up today in the study for me.  Over the past week I was caught thinking of the “Beattitudes” and remembered a time when Pastor Jim, the pastor at Heart of The Canyons Church in Santa Clarita, did a service on the “Beattitudes”.  I listened but can honestly say I don’t remember a lot about the talk that day. Then I visited a church with a friend of mine on Sunday – the message was the Sermon on the Mount and how we need strong foundations to build a strong stable loving Godly life – but WHY did these pop into my head this past week, show up in the Service on Sunday, and TODAY it is my study.  This is where I look up to God and say, “Hmmm I hear you – I will read and focus on these for there is a message here from YOU to ME – Thank you Jesus”

Dear Lord I Pray…

Dear Jesus… Thank you for the message not only once but on three different occasions – I know you are giving me guidance to where I should be looking and revisiting and well to be honest I did not stop and take notice the first time, the second time I once again listened and now today I GET IT!  Thank you for not giving up on me and for the path you are showing me.  I am committing today to you that I will read, study and visit Matthew 5:3-12 and take home a message you are sharing with me.  Jesus, thank you for your strength in this time of struggle in my life and for the arms of comfort when needed.  I would like to lift up Alicia and her family to you Lord in this time of transition for them.  Please be there to comfort and to share with them in this time along with reminding everyone that a time for growth is a great time with God!  Lord, I pray for those that need to find peace and the unconditional love you have- I pray that they will hear the message, the guidance, the comfort you give them everyday no matter if they heard you the first time.  Jesus you are a loving Father and I am so blessed to be in YOUR family.  In your name I pray… AMEN.
