The Busy Mom’s Guide to Bible Study, Lisa Whelchel – Christina’s Day One

Today Lisa introduces using the 5 W’s and an H – she goes on to explain how using these words/questions in your breakdown of the scripture you are reading you get a clearer picture and can well kinda cut to the chase of what is going on.

Jesus Heals Ten Men With Leprosy (Luke 17:11-19)

11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy[a] met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”

14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.

15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”  (reference: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2017:11-19&version=NIV)

Asking questions of Who, What, When, Where, Why and How you really get a chance to FEEL this passage not just read it.

After she goes to answer those questions with you and helps flush out the needed info, she asked you to fill in the Discovery end – what did you get from the passage?  What did the Holy Spirit lay on heart with this passage? and what insights came your way?

For me in my “discovery” in this passage I can say (after reading it twice) there is a gentle reminder to reach out to God when you are in need – but do so with a pure request.  When given a command by God, follow it – for it is the path that HE wants you on for His plan, whether it be based on your request or where he wants you to be for the overall plan. AND most importantly I was saddened deep inside to see out of the 10 that were healed, only one returned to thank and give gratitude for what had happened.  This made me reflect and ask myself, How many times have I been given a gift from God, or how many times has he answered my request where I DID NOT SHOW thanks to him – I know I have walked away with a smile but did I walk away giving Thanks?  I want to be more aware of the gifts God brings to my life everyday – big or small and remember to always give thanks to HIM and show the due appreciation in all that was given to me.

Dear Lord I Pray…

Dear Jesus…. I pray to you today asking for your forgiveness in all the times I did not Thank You for the great things you have done for me, my family or a my friends – especially at my request.  You have answered so many of my prayers and you have never given up on me even when I seem to be ungrateful.  Please know in my heart I have never forgotten all of the things you have done for me – but I still need to be sure I thank you boldly, loudly and verbally!  I want to share more of your gifts with others and the great news of what it is to have you in my life!  Some people talk about how their day goes so awesome when they take the time to work out in the mornings – they have more energy and are more positive.  I feel that way too, BUT more importantly, I can FEEL such a great difference in my days when I take my ATG time (my Alone Time with God) first thing in the morning – reflecting on the past day, praying for others on the current day and giving Thanks!  Thank you Jesus for all you are not only in my life but in the lives of everyone on this planet – whether they know it or not you ARE in them too.  In your Name Jesus, AMEN!
