The Busy Mom’s Guide to Bible Study, Lisa Whelchel – Christina’s Day Four

Posted by on Aug 19, 2013 in The Busy Mom's Guide To Bible Study

Good Beautiful Morning!

Today I worked on Day four of the study… I think this learning style is best suited for me.  Like Lisa my son, who ironically enough is named Tucker as well, has ADHD and yes it is the best for him too!

Writing down your scripture you are focusing on is a super cool way to be able to take it one word at a time too.  I usually say it as I write it, re read it out loud, then internalize and analyze it.  AND I think using index cards is a great way to then organize them as to maybe situations they are best suited for, or feelings you get when you read it or even the spiritual “topic” is was meant for so that you can file them in an index box card holder for later use!

I like this idea too for the Prayer binder Lisa talks about on her website – creating a binder for situational prayers along with prayer requests from people where you write the prayer down on a card and some scripture and place it in the binder for easy recall and prayer time!

Praise the Lord all nations!
Extol him, all people!
For great is his steadfast love towards us,
and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord!
Psalm 117

The Busy Mom’s Guide to Bible Study, Lisa Whelchel – Christina’s Day Three

Posted by on Aug 15, 2013 in The Busy Mom's Guide To Bible Study

Auditory learning…  reading the content out loud (loud enough to hear it well, not a little whisper)  gives us another learning style Lisa Whelchel shares in this day’s study.  I think I like this method the best – I do find myself when I really need to concentrate on something I am writing or reading I read it out loud.  So for learning I really feel this is the best for me.

One of my favorite things from my small group bible study is what ever we were studying the leader, Mike, would break it into peaces and have each one of us read that piece out loud to the group.  It was really neat because not only did we get the benefit of listening to someone else and their “inflections” while reading but we all seemed to have different translations of the bible and we could share that too… boy I miss that the most!

Day three works like this – read this passage and “stress” each word while reading it several times over – so the first time you read it out loud you stress the first word, the second time – the second word, the third time – the third word and so on until you have read it out loud as many times as there are words in the passage.  I am not sure about reading the passage over and over as many times as there are words in it but defilement out loud – as I say loud and proud!

Try it – here is our passage:

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.  Psalm 37:4

Bringing Back My JOY for Christmas!

Posted by on Dec 22, 2012 in Real Life Application

For as many adult years as I can remember, I have been struggling with finding joy at Christmas time. I don’t know exactly when it started… Or what caused it… But each year as the Christmas season approached, the feelings of sadness and the unexplainable weight of the stress of the holidays was unbearable.
